Aurifil Artisan Challenge - Stitch Pink 2023
Take a look at my Stitch Pink 2023 Project for sponsored by Aurifil Thread and Moda Fabrics featuring the Lighthearted Collection by Camille Roskelley of Thimble Blossoms. I chose a wall hanging to feature an applique design that I had pictured the moment I knew about this challenge! I’m so glad it turned out as wonderful as I pictured!
When I learned of the Stitch Pink 2023 challenge, I knew I wanted something to represent the brave battle that women fight. The most touching part of this battle? The women who fight it with strength, grace and beauty. The Lighthearted Collection represented all of these traits and I knew that I wanted a special touch. The applique design I created, represents all of this and the hope and strength behind the battle.
For the challenge, Aurifil Artisans were given a charm pack of the Moda Fabrics Lighthearted Collection. I added coordinated Moda Bella Solids in Aqua (34), Flamingo (299), Sisters Pink (145), and Grass (101). to highlight my project. Meg over at Monogram for Makers helped me with the color matching and I fell in love with the combination!
I started off this fun project with one of my favorite patchwork tips - making 4 patches from 5” charm pack squares! They are so much fun and it’s a great way to use the variety in a charm pack and make tons of fun 4-patch blocks! You can also check out my YouTube Tutorial on this fun technique.
I added a center fabric section between the patchwork panels for my applique figure. This wall hanging features cross hatch quilting that highlights the patchwork and free motion stitching around the applique! I used the matching Aurifil Lighthearted Thread Collection in 2835, 2024 and 2415 in 50 weight for various areas of quilting. Finally, I wrapped this project up with this beautiful flanged binding!
